Its name comes from the Latin <em>lavare<\/em>, &#8220;to wash&#8221;. But behind the word &#8220;lavender&#8221; there are actually four plants, each with its own scent and uses. Here is what we, as growers, have learned.<\/p>\n\n<h3>Four plants, four scents, four uses<\/h3>\n<p>There are two main families of lavender: true lavender and spike lavender. Lavandin is a natural hybrid between these two families, <em>Lavandula angustifolia<\/em> and <em>Lavandula latifolia<\/em>. Its two main varieties, grosso and super, each have their own character.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>True lavender<\/strong> (fine, English): the lavender for calm moments. Soft, floral scent.
