Lavandin massage: massage oil and bath recipes for tired muscles

douleurs musculaires lavande

After a day of harvesting in the fields, we know a thing or two about tired muscles. And we also know what helps: a good massage with lavandin oil, or a foot bath at the end of the day. On the Valensole plateau, our family has grown lavandin since 1932, organically since 2002. Here are our simple recipes.

Organic lavandin macerate, massage oil base
Our organic lavandin macerate: a ready-made massage base.

Which lavandin for massage?

  • Lavandin super: softer and less camphorous, close to true lavender. The favourite for massage and body care. Coming soon to our shop.
  • Lavandin grosso: the strongest and longest-lasting scent. It can also be used for massage, slightly more diluted. It is our organic lavandin essential oil.

All about the varieties: how to use lavandin, grosso or super.

3 lavandin massage and bath recipes

1. After-exercise massage oil

  • 50 ml vegetable oil (sweet almond, sunflower, olive) or lavandin macerate
  • 10 drops lavandin super essential oil (or 6 drops of grosso)

Mix in a small bottle. Massage calves, thighs, shoulders or lower back with slow, firm movements. Ideal after sport, a hike or a physical day.

Even simpler: our lavandin macerate is a vegetable oil in which the flowers have been steeped. Use it as it is, as a ready-made massage base.

2. Evening foot bath

  • A basin of hot water
  • 2 tablespoons coarse salt
  • 5 drops lavandin essential oil, mixed with 1 tablespoon liquid soap

Soak for 15 minutes, dry, then massage your feet with a few drops of your massage oil.

3. Relaxing bath

  • 10 drops lavandin essential oil
  • Mixed with 2 tablespoons liquid soap or neutral bath base
  • A handful of coarse salt

Important: never pour essential oil alone into bath water. It does not mix with water and stays undiluted on the surface, in contact with your skin.

How to massage

  • Calves and thighs: always work upwards, from ankle to knee, then to hip.
  • Shoulders and neck: small circles with your fingertips, then broader pressure with your palm.
  • Lower back: fan-shaped movements from the spine outwards.
  • Feet: press the arch with your thumbs, from heel to toes.

Short on time? Our lavandin balm fits in your sports bag and goes on in 30 seconds.

Lavender or lavandin?

Fresh, invigorating lavandin is perfect after exercise. For evening relaxation and sleep, choose the softer true lavender: lavender essential oil and sleep.

Frequently asked questions

Can lavandin essential oil be applied undiluted to the skin?

No. Always dilute it in a vegetable oil or macerate.

How often can I massage with lavandin?

After each workout, or once or twice a day for a few days.

Is lavandin massage suitable for children?

Essential oils are not recommended for young children. Lavandin macerate on its own is a gentler option.

What if the pain persists?

Massage is a moment of well-being, not a treatment. If pain persists, see a doctor or physiotherapist.

Precautions for use

Do not swallow. Always dilute before applying to the skin. Do not apply to damaged skin or near the eyes. Not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, young children or people with epilepsy. Do a patch test in the crook of the elbow 24 hours before first use.
